Benefits of Pilates

You may be an office worker suffering from neck and shoulder tension or lower back pain, an ex-sports person who has had little balance or flexibility training or the elite athlete looking for performance enhancements or recovery.

Pilates is an exercise technique that is user friendly to anyone of any age or disposition.

IQ Pilates has clients from ages of 9 up to 91years. When programs are specifically designed for people with special conditions i.e osteoporosis, arthritis, pregnancy, injuries there are many benefits. Injuries covered by ACC may be subsidized when sessions are with our physiotherapists. Raewyn Hing is also a sport science provider for the Academy of Sport.

People with no special conditions, athletes and sports people get significant results with a tailored program and individuals or they can do general mat, reformer, or gyrokinesis® classes.

Pilates improves core strength, flexibility, balance, stability, co-ordination and overall body awareness. The use of machinery is unique because the springs help and assist with movement. A person who will usually cheat when doing a movement can make it significantly easier by using assistance with springs. Then they can concentrate on the right muscles to do their movement and in turn improve precision and quality. People who need exercise modifications for injuries or have specific goals such as sport performance should do equipment work with specific programming.

People have increased body awareness, significant relief or full recovery from their special conditions or injuries. Improved breathing efficiency is a benefit which helps for those who suffer from stress and chronic pain. Our elderly clients find they have increased range of movement and are stronger in their everyday functional activities.
